Eslicarbazepine acetate (ESL)
1) The main possible mechanism: involve inhibition of voltage-gated sodium channels.
2) Therapeutic indications: treatment of focal seizures in patients 4 years of age and older.
3) Warning: contraindicated in patients allergic to eslicarbazepine acetate or oxcarbazepine (eslicarbazepine is metabolized in the body to produce a small amount of oxcarbazepine).

5) Major adverse reactions in children: Dizziness, headache, drowsiness, inattention, diplopia, ataxia, nausea, vomiting, etc. may occur, and a few may experience allergies, hyponatremia, prolongation of the PR interval, liver function damage, leukopenia, Abnormal thyroid function test results.
6) Interaction with other anti-epileptic drugs: carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone may cause decreases in eslicarbazepine acetate concentrations. Eslicarbazepine may increase the concentrations of phenytoin and clobazam.
7) Interaction with non-anti-epileptic drugs: Eslicarbazepine may increase the concentration of omeprazole and may decrease the concentrations of simvastatin and lovastatin. In addition, eslicarbazepine can significantly reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives.
