Ethosuximide (ESM)

1) The main possible mechanism: seems to rely primarily on the inhibition of T-type calcium channels in the thalamus.

2) Therapeutic indications: It is mainly used for the treatment of absence seizures. In addition, it has certain effect on myoclonic seizures. It can be used as the first choice drug for Childhood Absence Epilepsy.

3) Warning: In addition to absence seizures, other types of epileptic seizures generally rarely use it alone.

6) Interaction with other anti-epileptic drugs: ethosuximide may elevate phenytoin serum levels and valproic acid has been reported to both increase and decrease ethosuximide levels
